Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Ocean Reef Retreat on Naval Parade, I honestly wasn’t expecting much from the exterior — but that’s the thing about this four-star gem, it surprises you. The building itself has this understated coastal charm that fits perfectly with the Joondalup area vibe. What immediately caught my attention was how easy it was to find parking right on site, which, if you’ve ever driven around Perth’s northern beaches during peak season, you’ll know is basically gold.
Location & Neighborhood
The location is actually what makes this place special — you’re literally a stone’s throw from some of Perth‘s best northern beaches, but you’re not stuck in the touristy chaos of Scarborough or Cottesloe. Naval Parade runs right along the coast here, so you get those ocean views without the crowds. I mean, couples seem to get this because they consistently rate the location around 8.9, and I can see why. You can walk to the beach in minutes, but you’re also close enough to Joondalup’s shopping and dining scene when you want something more than fish and chips.
The Room Experience
My room faced the ocean, and honestly, waking up to that view never gets old — even after a few days. The space felt modern without being sterile, with that coastal color palette that actually works instead of feeling forced. The bed was comfortable enough that I didn’t wake up with the usual travel aches, and the bathroom had decent water pressure, which you know matters more than you think it should. There’s something about the way the afternoon light hits these rooms that makes you want to just sit by the window with a coffee.
Dining & Amenities
The on-site restaurant serves up solid Australian coastal cuisine — nothing too fancy, but they know their way around fresh seafood. I had the barramundi one night and it was cooked perfectly, though the wine list could use some work if I’m being honest. What I really appreciated was how the staff seemed to actually know the local area when I asked for recommendations. They pointed me toward this little café in Joondalup that I never would’ve found otherwise, and it ended up being one of the highlights of my trip.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t the flashiest hotel you’ll ever stay at, but there’s something refreshingly genuine about the whole experience. Recent guests have been rating it 9.1 for location, and after spending time here, I get it — you’re getting that beachside Perth experience without paying Cottesloe prices or dealing with Fremantle crowds. The free parking alone probably saves you $30 a night compared to other coastal spots, and the staff treats you like a person rather than a room number. It’s the kind of place where you actually relax instead of just posting photos for social media.
Apartments in Perth suit remote workers with floor-to-ceiling river views, fast fibre, and balconies over the CBD skyline.

Guest Reviews
Exceptional property at a reasonable price. Would stay again and refer it to friends.
Quite location
Apartment very tidy
What could be improved: No Towel rails in bathroom
Bath tub could not be used - tap issue
Gorgeous, comfortable little apartment in a stunning location :)
Thoroughly enjoyed everything about my stay at Ocean Reef Retreat. From the concise information on reaching the location, parking and accessing the retreat, to the comfort, cleanliness and welcoming touches at the property ... I could not have asked for more. The geographical location on Perth's beautiful northern beaches is faultless. The hosts and their representative with whom I met were accommodating, friendly and very knowledgeable on the local and wider area. Thank you! :D
What could be improved: Had the weather been a little warmer I would have enjoyed making use of the pool! :D
Lovely stay, great place to settle for a week whilst catching up with friends
Great place to stay with everything you need
What could be improved: Nothing
Our stay was very good. Served our purpose The unit was exceptionally clean
Very clean. Easy to get too. Good instructions on how to get into the property
What could be improved: The bed was creaky and a little uncomfortable. The fan in the toilet worked the first day but then stopped. The light globe in the overhead light in the bathroom needs changing (didn’t matter as there were other lights though)
The property and the hosts were fantastic. Everything that was required was available.
The location was fantastic . We were visiting my brother who lives approx 6 mins away .
We were close to Currambine ,Joondalup .Mindarie and Hilarys .
The property had everything that was needed and the hosts were very helpful and answered any queries we had.
What could be improved: There were no complaints whatsoever .
Beautiful Apartment in a Beautiful Suburb
This property is an absolute gem. It is in a beautiful suburb of Perth. Mullaloo beach is on your door step. You can actually see the ocean from the apartment. It was spotless and modern. I enjoyed sitting in the nice outdoor area for my lunch. It’s really well equipped and kitchen is stocked with Yorkshire tea, coffee, milk, cooking essentials (oil, sauce, spices) and there was even a couple of magnum ice creams in the freezer which I thought was a nice touch. Bathroom also well equipped with shampoo, shower gel, sun cream etc. The owners are lovely people. You won’t find a more reasonable priced an apartment anywhere in Perth. I actually tried to extend my stay as I enjoyed it that much but unfortunately it’s really popular and was fully booked.
What could be improved: There’s nothing to dislike about this place. Only that I wanted to stay longer
Exceptional
Great quiet location. Friendly people.
Very pleasant with a short drive to amenities.
Clean, modern and central to shopping centres.
What could be improved: Chairs around table in lounge room are of an outdoor setting and uncomfortable.
