Overview
You know what caught me off guard about the Mercure Perth On Hay? It’s actually got this understated confidence that works really well for the location. I mean, you’re literally on Hay Street in the thick of everything – I could hear the occasional tram rumbling by, but honestly, it wasn’t disruptive at all. The building itself has this sort of business-meets-leisure vibe that makes sense when you realize half the guests are probably here for work and the other half are using it as a base to explore Perth.
The lobby feels more spacious than you’d expect from a city hotel, and check-in was refreshingly straightforward. What I really appreciated was how the staff actually knew the neighborhood – when I asked about getting to Kings Park, the guy didn’t just point me toward a tourist map, he mentioned the shortcut through the mall and warned me about the weekend markets that might slow me down. The rooms are what you’d call reliably comfortable rather than flashy. The bed was genuinely good (I’m picky about mattresses), and the shower had proper pressure, which – let’s be honest – can be hit or miss in city hotels. The windows are decent sized, though if you’re on the lower floors facing Hay Street, you’ll get the full urban soundtrack.
Here’s the thing about this place though – it’s positioned perfectly for people who want to actually experience Perth rather than just stay somewhere fancy. You’re a five-minute walk from the Cultural Centre, and if you’re into coffee (and really, who isn’t in this city?), there are some seriously good cafés tucked into the surrounding streets that you’d never find if you were staying out in the suburbs. The hotel restaurant is fine, nothing spectacular, but honestly, with all the dining options within walking distance, I barely spent time there. Parking is available but it’ll cost you – though that’s pretty standard for CBD hotels. I’d say it’s worth it if you’re planning to explore beyond the city center, but if you’re sticking to the downtown area, you really don’t need a car. The whole Murray Street Mall shopping strip is right there, and the train station is close enough that getting to Fremantle or the beaches is totally doable. It’s one of those hotels that gets the basics right without trying to be something it’s not, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

Guest Reviews
Very good
Good sized room. Great location. Clean. Friendly staff.
What could be improved: Booking wasn't done correctly. Booked for two but only one was put down on their system.
Satisfied, great place for a stop over and well priced for what it has to offer. would recommend it
breakfast was great, good selection of food and coffee, value for money. Location was great, we walked to the ferry, walked to the Perth MInt and into the CBD.
What could be improved: Our room was just above restaurant and a bit noisy. The bathroom was tired, there was shampoo/conditioner and soap provided but the conditioner was empty. Tea and coffee facilities provided but no teaspoon/cutlery to use to make the tea or coffee.
I only stayed 1 night, the bed and room was comfortable, quite for a city ! 😆
Close to walk to the city/Mall
What could be improved: I really had nothing to dislike
Very good
The restaurant the food was very nice.
What could be improved: I was a bit confused with how to operate the heating and cooling system in my room.
value for money

What could be improved: didnt have restaurant and bar open on public holiday
Very good
Very helpful and friendly staff
What could be improved: It was a little noisy at night,
Maybe it was the lift.
Very good
Clear access and presentable from the outside. We'll lit entry and reception. My room was clean and tidy, which made for a comfortable stay.
What could be improved: I booked an extra night and I was changed more for my 2nd night then the first?
Would recommend to friends
Great location, staff were helpful, great facilities.
What could be improved: Elevator, only one working.
Convenient
It was the perfect location for what I needed. The train station is just 15 minutes away.
The shower was old but in general was very clean.
Good
Location wasn't as good as I thought and the rooms a bit out dated and older
