I stumbled onto Malibu Apartments during one of those frantic last-minute booking sessions, and honestly? Best accidental find in Perth. The building sits right on Cleaver Street in West Perth, which – if you don’t know the area – is actually this sweet spot where you’re close enough to the CBD to walk there in decent weather, but far enough out that you’re not dealing with all the weekend chaos and sirens at 2am.
The apartments themselves have this lived-in quality that I mean in the best way possible. You know how some places try too hard to look magazine-perfect? This isn’t that. The furniture’s comfortable, the kitchen actually has sharp knives (travelers know this matters), and there’s enough space to properly unpack if you’re staying more than a couple nights. What really got me was the attention to practical stuff – decent water pressure, blackout curtains that actually block light, and WiFi that doesn’t cut out every time someone uses the microwave. The kind of details that make you think someone who actually travels had input on the setup. I will say the air conditioning unit in my room was a bit loud, but honestly, after walking around Perth in summer heat, I wasn’t complaining.
Location-wise, you’re about a fifteen-minute stroll to the Swan River foreshore, which is perfect for those early morning walks before the day gets too hot. There’s a decent coffee place – Typika – just around the corner on Hay Street that the locals seem to know about, and if you’re into groceries rather than eating out every meal, there’s a Coles about ten minutes away. Parking was surprisingly painless too, which anyone who’s driven around Perth’s CBD will appreciate. The 8.4 rating makes sense when you add it all up – it’s not trying to be the fanciest place in town, but it nails the stuff that actually matters when you’re trying to get some decent sleep and feel somewhat normal while you’re away from home. Plus, the price point means you can actually afford to do things in Perth instead of blowing your budget on accommodation.

Retro but comfortable
Clean and simple. Retro style apartment, good bed. Easy to get in, close to the local pool for an early morning swim

They had advised in a email and text message that there would be a lock box for my key as there was no reception. The apartment was very clean and had everything I needed.
What could be improved: As I arrived when it was dark, I did not realise that the parking was located at the rear of property via a couple of laneways, so it took me a little while to navigate, but once I had worked it out, it was actually quite easy.
