You know what caught me off guard about the Kangaroo Inn? It’s actually way better than that 7.1 rating suggests – I mean, I’ve stayed at places with higher scores that felt half as welcoming. Right there on Murray Street, you’re literally in the thick of Perth’s CBD without the insane price tag that comes with some of the flashier hotels a few blocks over.

The thing about this place is it gets the fundamentals right in a way that feels refreshingly honest. When I walked into the lobby, it wasn’t trying to impress me with marble everything or some over-the-top chandelier – just clean lines, comfortable seating, and staff who actually seemed to care about whether I found my room okay. My room faced Murray Street, and honestly? The traffic noise dies down pretty significantly after 9 PM, so don’t let that scare you off. The beds are proper comfortable (not too soft, not like sleeping on concrete), and the bathroom had one of those rainfall showerheads that actually works – you’d be surprised how many places get that wrong.

What really sold me on this spot was the location itself. You’re a three-minute walk from the Murray Street Mall, which means you can grab coffee, hit up the shops, or duck into one of those little laneway bars without needing an Uber. Hay Street’s right there too, and if you’re the type who likes to explore, you can easily wander down to the Swan River or catch the free CAT buses that loop around the city. The hotel doesn’t have valet parking – there’s a paid lot nearby that’ll run you about $25 a day, but that’s pretty standard for Perth CBD. Check-in was smooth, maybe ten minutes total, and they actually gave me a room ready about an hour before the official time without me even asking. Look, it’s not going to blow your mind with luxury touches, but it does everything a solid 4-star should do, and the price point makes it feel like you’re getting away with something. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I wanted to be right in the center of things without breaking the bank.
