Overview
Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of beachfront places, and most of them are either way too far from the actual beach or the “ocean view” turns out to be a sliver of blue between two buildings. Clifton On Scarborough is refreshingly honest about that “absolute beachfront” claim – you’re literally right there on The Esplanade with nothing between you and Scarborough Beach except maybe some sand in your shoes.
The thing about this place is it gets the little stuff right. Check-in was smooth (they actually remembered I’d mentioned arriving late), and honestly, the rooms are what you’d expect from a solid 4-star without any pretentious nonsense. What really got me was stepping out onto the balcony that first morning – you know that moment when you hear the waves and realize you’re not going to need to walk fifteen minutes just to see the ocean? The beach here isn’t some tiny strip either; Scarborough’s got proper sand, and the swimming’s actually decent most of the year. I mean, it’s Perth, so the water’s not exactly tropical, but it’s refreshing after a day wandering around the city.
The location works because you’re not stuck in some resort bubble. There’s a decent coffee spot just down The Esplanade (locals seem to prefer it over the tourist places), and if you walk maybe five minutes toward the main strip, you’ll find proper restaurants that aren’t trying to charge you resort prices. Parking was surprisingly painless – they’ve got their own spaces, which in Scarborough is honestly worth mentioning because finding a spot during summer weekends can be a nightmare. The area gets busy with families and surfers, especially on weekends, but it’s the good kind of busy where there’s energy without feeling chaotic. Evenings are lovely actually – most of the day crowds head home, and you get these perfect sunset moments where it feels like you have the whole beach to yourself. The hotel itself runs quietly; I never had issues with noise from other guests, though you will hear the ocean constantly, which I personally loved but might bother light sleepers. Staff clearly knows the area well – when I asked about the best time to avoid crowds at the beach, they gave me specific times and even mentioned which end of the beach stays calmer. That 8.8 rating feels about right; it’s not trying to be fancy, but it delivers exactly what it promises, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need.

Exceptional
Superb
Basic 3 bedroom apartment in a good location
Well located property right opposite Scarborough beach, Scarborough swimming pool and shops
Exceptional
We really loved the location with lots of amenities and the ocean so close.
Location is great. Lots of restaurants and cafes, bakery and grocery store. Beach and pool and beachside facilities are awesome.
What could be improved: The place has a lot of overdue maintenance. Cupboards and closet door that won't close properly. A wall that's been patched but not finished. Cranky blinds. But the worst are the kitchen sink tap. It's uncontrollable and actually shot a glass out of my hand and broke it. Twice I had to change my shirt after getting wet. The other is the door handle into the toilet. It is so stiff it hurt my wrist to open and one of the kids could not get out of there on their own. This may sound dramatized but I urge the owner to go in and test these things.

Hosts excellent to deal with
A nice size apartment, but showing its age.
Location bear the beach.3 bedrooms kitchen and living room at an affordable price. Sauna.
What could be improved: The check-in information was on a very long winded email sent a week before. I didn't realise a lot of things we had to do and it was a trial to get the key from another hotel and get. Into the property numerous things in the apartment are damaged./old and worn out.( Master bedroom, blind wouldn't open as the roller had been removed, making the bedroom very dark and impossible to open the balcony door.'The wardrobe door where the shelving unit was wouldn't open either. We couldn't find the beach towels which were promised. Pool was unheated.
Absolutely fantastic location
Great position
What could be improved: Needs maintenance - main bedroom seaside blind; second toilet leaking; 3rd bedroom wardrobe door off rail.
The property did not live up to expectations for the amount we paid
Accommodation was spacious and comfortable
What could be improved: The property was not very clean
Gardner started loud noise at 7.30am
Gardener climbed onto our balcony to trim hedges with loud hedger while we were sitting ouside
Good
Location
What could be improved: Beds were very hard
