Overview
You know what struck me first about Westside Retreat? It’s tucked away on Vincent Street in this quiet pocket of West Perth that feels like you’ve escaped the city without actually leaving it. I mean, you’re literally a ten-minute walk from the Perth CBD, but the street has this surprisingly residential vibe – tree-lined and peaceful, which honestly makes all the difference when you’re trying to get a decent night’s sleep.
The building itself has that boutique hotel feel without being too precious about it. It’s a 4-star place that actually feels like a solid 4-star, if you know what I mean – sometimes these ratings can be all over the place. The lobby’s got this warm, contemporary thing going on, and check-in was refreshingly straightforward (no upselling or lengthy explanations about amenities I didn’t ask about). What I really appreciated was how quiet it stays, even on weekends. I think it’s because Vincent Street doesn’t get much through traffic – most people stick to the main drags like Hay Street or Wellington.
The rooms are genuinely comfortable, not just Instagram-pretty. Good blackout curtains, which is crucial if you’re dealing with jet lag, and the beds are actually supportive – I’m picky about this stuff because I’ve stayed in too many places with mattresses that look great but leave you feeling like you slept on a cloud made of disappointment. The bathrooms are well-designed too, with proper water pressure and space to spread out your toiletries without everything falling into the sink.
Here’s something most reviews won’t tell you: the area gets pretty lively during Perth Festival season (usually February-March), but in a good way. You’re close enough to walk to Hyde Park for events, and there are some solid local spots nearby that aren’t touristy. There’s this little coffee place around the corner that does proper flat whites – important when you’re trying to adjust to Australian coffee culture. Parking can be a bit tricky on the street, but the hotel sorts that out, which honestly saved me from circling the block like a lost tourist.
The 8.3 rating makes sense when you stay there. It’s not trying to be the fanciest place in Perth, but it nails the fundamentals really well. The staff actually knows the neighborhood and can point you toward decent dinner spots that aren’t just the obvious choices. I had someone recommend this Vietnamese place on Fitzgerald Street that I never would have found otherwise – sometimes those local tips are worth more than any fancy amenity.
If you’re looking for a place that’s well-located without being right in the thick of everything, Westside Retreat hits that sweet spot. You can walk to Kings Park when you want some green space, catch the free CAT bus into the city center, or just enjoy being in a part of Perth that feels more like where locals actually live and work. It’s the kind of place where you can settle in for a few days and feel like you’re getting a real sense of the city, not just the tourist version.

Guest Reviews
Convenient location but the apartment is not up to standard.
The property was in a convenient location - close to supermarkets/shops/parks
What could be improved: We had multiple issues, only some of which could be addressed - the bed frame in the main bedroom was broken - making it unusable, one leg of the bed was also broken making the bed un-moveable and thus the cleaners had not vacuumed under the bed - when we had to move it there was dirt ++, disposable contact lens cases and other rubbish from previous occupants. The water filter on the fridge required replacement - so no cold water or ice. This problem could not be fixed during our 19 night stay. During our stay the air-conditioner signalled that it required servicing. We alerted the property manager but nothing could be done until after we left the property 5 days later. Consequently we had to stay in the apartment with unreliable air-conditioning. Overall, the apartment is "tired" - the walls have been damaged by previous tenants, the window tinting in the main bedroom has been damaged and is completely missing in one place.
Very pleasant stay
Location and clean
What could be improved: Kettle tripped the power. Faulty kettle. Was replaced next day though
The stay was very good, very private place, and a very good sized property
Was very private and close to everything
When I had to call the hostess, she was amazingly helpful.
The location was perfect for our stay
Great location.
Location was great.
Very roomy/
What could be improved: Light shone right through at night into bedrooms.
Very good
Clean, spacious, secure parking.
What could be improved: Building is near main road with noise traffic.
Wonderful, few, but minor issues as above
Very nice house, good location
What could be improved: The bins were full so took some with and left some there. Could not open first gate with code, but neighbours garage was open, so we got in that way.
Suited our requirements perfectly
The location was very good, with easy access to shops and restaurants.
What could be improved: Road noise
Would definitely stay there again
Location was great. Very clean and tidy.
What could be improved: There could be some more cooking utensils - but overall was great.
Delightful modern apartment with a exceptional location
The spacious interior and design. Clean and comfortable facilities. Great location for travel around the city. 10/10 would recommend.
What could be improved: Not much I didn’t like. I suppose the bin that was full of rubbish that was left outside the front of the house when we arrived. The main bins outside near the garage were full. Didn’t leave room for our rubbish when checking out.
