So I stumbled across New York On King during one of those frantic last-minute Perth booking sessions, and honestly? Best accidental find I’ve had in ages. The name threw me off at first – I mean, New York vibes in Perth CBD – but once you see the place, it actually makes sense. They’ve got this sleek, urban apartment-style setup going on that feels more like crashing at a sophisticated friend’s place than staying in a typical hotel.

The location is pretty much perfect if you know Perth at all. King Street puts you right in the thick of things without being on one of those crazy busy roads that’ll keep you up all night. You’re literally walking distance to all the good stuff – Northbridge for nightlife, the train station when you need to get around, and honestly, some of the best coffee spots in the city are just around the corner. I found myself grabbing breakfast at this little place two blocks down every morning instead of eating at the hotel, which tells you something about the neighborhood. There’s actual street life here, you know? Not just tourist traps and chain restaurants.

What really got me was how they’ve managed to nail that 4-star sweet spot – nice enough that you feel a bit fancy, but not so precious that you’re afraid to actually live in the space. The apartments (because that’s really what they are) have proper kitchens, which saved me a fortune on room service and takeout. The beds are seriously comfortable – I’m talking sink-right-in-and-sleep-like-a-baby comfortable. And the whole place just feels… I don’t know, grown-up? Like it’s designed for people who actually travel for real reasons, not just Instagram shots. The 9.1 rating makes total sense when you’re there – it’s not perfect, but the things they do well, they do really well. Check-in was smooth, the staff actually seemed to know the area when I asked for recommendations, and the WiFi didn’t cut out every five minutes like some places. Plus, and this might sound weird, but it smells right – you know how some hotels have that slightly chemical, trying-too-hard scent? None of that here. Just clean and comfortable and like a place where you could actually get some work done if you needed to.
