You know what surprised me about this place? I walked past it twice before realizing this was actually my hotel. The Modern Scarborough Townhouse sits so naturally on Abbett Street that it feels more like you’re staying at a friend’s really well-designed home than checking into some cookie-cutter accommodation. And honestly, that’s exactly what makes it special.

The whole setup just works. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the beach – I mean, you can hear the waves from some of the rooms, which is either perfect or slightly annoying depending on how much you love ocean sounds at 6 AM. The townhouse itself has this clean, contemporary thing going on without being cold or sterile. I actually loved how they’ve done the interiors – it’s modern but still feels lived-in, if that makes sense. The kitchen was properly equipped too, not just some sad mini-fridge situation, so you can actually make decent coffee in the morning (crucial, since the nearest decent café is a bit of a walk down West Coast Highway).

What really got me was how quiet it stays despite being so close to everything. Scarborough’s gotten pretty busy over the past few years with all the redevelopment, but Abbett Street somehow dodges most of the chaos. You’re close enough to walk to the Scarborough Beach Pool or grab dinner at one of the restaurants near the esplanade, but you’re not dealing with the weekend crowds stumbling past your window. Parking was straightforward too – none of that circling-the-block nonsense you get in some parts of Perth. The hosts were genuinely helpful without being overly chatty, which I appreciated. They actually knew the area well enough to suggest that little bakery on Manning Street that I never would have found otherwise. The whole experience felt effortless, really. Sometimes you stay somewhere and spend half your time figuring out how things work or where stuff is, but this place just made sense from the moment I walked in.
