Overview
First Impressions
Walking into Happy Stays Classic Mid-Century Modern Escape feels like stepping into a perfectly curated design magazine — but one you can actually touch and live in. The four-star property on Third Avenue has this authentic retro vibe that doesn’t feel forced or kitschy. You know how some places try too hard with the vintage thing? This isn’t one of them. The clean lines, warm wood tones, and carefully chosen furniture pieces create this genuinely relaxing atmosphere that makes you want to slow down and actually appreciate your surroundings.
Location & Getting Around
Here’s what I really appreciated about the location in Perth — you’re close enough to everything that matters without being stuck in the thick of tourist chaos. Third Avenue puts you in a spot where you can walk to decent coffee shops and local eateries, but you’re not dealing with constant street noise or crowds. The couples who stay here seem to get it — there’s something romantic about having your own little design retreat while still being connected to the city. I mean, recent guests have been raving about the location, and honestly, I can see why.
The Space Itself
The room design is where this place really shines. Every piece feels intentional — from the sleek furniture to the lighting that actually works for both reading and relaxing. The mid-century modern aesthetic isn’t just surface-level decoration; it’s woven into how the space functions. You’ll find plenty of storage (which is rarer than it should be in boutique places), and the layout flows naturally. The attention to detail is impressive without being overwhelming — like, you notice the quality of the fixtures and finishes, but they don’t scream for attention.
What Makes It Special
What sets this place apart is how it balances style with actual comfort. You’re not sacrificing practicality for Instagram-worthy photos, though you’ll definitely want to take some. The whole experience feels curated but not precious — if that makes sense. It’s the kind of place where you can spread out your stuff, make yourself at home, but still feel like you’re staying somewhere special. The fact that couples consistently rate it highly tells you something about the atmosphere they’ve created here.
Why Guests Love It
People keep coming back to this place because it delivers on its promise without any surprises or disappointments. The mid-century modern theme isn’t just marketing speak — it’s actually executed thoughtfully throughout. You’re getting genuine style, a great location that locals would choose, and that rare combination of character and comfort. For couples especially, there’s something about the intimate scale and design-forward approach that just works. It’s not trying to be everything to everyone, which is exactly why it succeeds at being something special for the right travelers.
Perth’s hotels pair oceanfront spas, sunset sailing on the Swan, and concierge-led tours of hidden street-art laneways.

Guest Reviews
Pretty good apart from having to pay for a locksmith to open a bathroom door. Still waiting for reim
What could be improved: Location
Nice apartment, but could do with a few little improvements
Layout if the apartment was great, the beds were very comfortable, convenient under cover parking in front of the apartment
What could be improved: Not enough glasses, just 2, no wine glasses at all. No pods provided for the Nespresso machine, no bottled water in the fridge, the freezer department was very noisy, might need to be serviced
Stan free Football & movies!
An Amazing flat that ticks all boxes. Friendly hosts , Free parking , Spacious 2 bedrooms, new floor tiles, 2 spotless clean bathrooms, a reasonable kitchen with all essentials & all sorts of T.V. free entertainment such as: Optus football sports, Stan movies, Netflix, TV my-choice casting...etc plus a big flat screen. Lovely! Highly recommended!
Excellent - met our requirements - would stay again
The configuration of the unit
The location
The comfy bed, couch and good showers
Full kitchen
Outdoor area and furniture
That dishwasher powder and laundry powder was supplied and the airer
What could be improved: The sliding flyscreen door had lost roller so was difficult to move - have advised
management
mugs - need more chip free
living area rug - need a different one that’s easier to keep clean - ie not shag
Clothes storage - need something like Cube/shelf storage in wardrobe to
unload folded clothes for long stay
Overall just minor tweaks - it suited us fine and our stay was excellent and would definitely stay again
Nice modern clean ground floor apartment with plenty of room in kitchen/lounge. Close to amenities. Would stay again
Location was convenient for our purpose. Plenty of room for 2 couples, each with own bathroom. Laundry was a bonus. Pantry items left by other guests proved a bonus.
What could be improved: Dining table was not stable and frightened it might tip and break. Door to maintain bathroom/laundry did not lock, neither did ensuite door. Bed was only a double bed and small. Shelving in wardrobe would have been good, save having luggage on bedroom floor. No soap in ensuite.
Very good and helpful staff contact
Location was great and great to have a washer and dryer and lots of towels. The high chair and cot were appreciated.
What could be improved: Needed a roasting dish and possibly more glasses and plates. The doors on bathrooms were broken. The table was dangerous.
Loved staying at the Zen Den
The location was perfect, only 20 mins away from some amazing restaurants and locations. Very central. Private car park and gated compound, the property was clean and well presented. The host was amazing and very friendly, checked in on our family to make sure we were enjoying our stay and had everything we needed. Liked the convenience of the lock box. Internet and Netflix were a great addition and being able to have our cats at the property was really helpful for us, especially with how far we travelled. Beds were very comfortable. Room sizes were decent and bedding clean.
What could be improved: Only one minor thing I could suggest was that the street lights at night would shine through into the room. Additional curtain would assist.
Very good
We liked the appartment and all the facilities.
What could be improved: We couldnt sleep at all on Sunday until at least 2am in the morning because the people renting in the top appartment were partying until really really late.
Good
Lovely open and bright space, loved the courtyard area. Bed was super comfortable. Easy access. Quiet neighbours
What could be improved: There was some areas that needed a bit more cleaning and the iron leaked heavily however still a good stay.
Very comfortable and relaxing place to come back to after a day out sight seeing.
Very modern, clean and well equipped
What could be improved: couldn’t fault anything.
