Overview
You know what struck me first about the Duxton? It’s one of those places that actually feels like Perth – not trying to be Sydney or Melbourne, but genuinely rooted in this city’s character. The building itself sits right on St. George’s Terrace, which honestly is about as central as you can get without being in the middle of traffic chaos. I mean, you’re literally looking out at the Swan River from the upper floors, and the whole financial district is basically your backyard.
The thing about staying here is that you’re in the thick of everything without feeling overwhelmed by it. Walk five minutes east and you’re at the Perth Mint (which, let’s be honest, is more interesting than it sounds), head west and you’re wandering through the Supreme Court Gardens where locals actually go to decompress. The hotel sits in that sweet spot where business travelers and tourists kind of naturally blend together – you’ll see suits grabbing coffee next to families planning their day trip to Rottnest.
What really sets this place apart is how they’ve managed to feel upscale without being stuffy. The lobby has this warm, almost residential feel – lots of rich wood and comfortable seating where you can actually work on your laptop without feeling like you’re camping out. The rooms are spacious by Perth standards (and trust me, that matters here), with those floor-to-ceiling windows that make you remember why people love this city’s light. Parking is valet only, which runs about $35 a night, but honestly it’s worth it because street parking around here is basically a blood sport during business hours. The staff genuinely seems to know the city well – not just the tourist spots, but where to grab the best coffee on a Sunday morning or which way to walk to avoid the construction mess that seems to perpetually plague the CBD.
I’ll be straight with you – this isn’t the cheapest option in town, and if you’re just looking for a place to crash after seeing the sights, you might find better value elsewhere. But if you want to feel like you’re actually experiencing Perth rather than just visiting it, the Duxton delivers. The restaurant downstairs does this modern Australian thing really well, and their weekend brunch pulls in locals, which is always a good sign. Plus, you’re walking distance to Elizabeth Quay when you want that postcard Perth experience, but you’re staying somewhere that feels more… I don’t know, substantial? Like you’re part of the city’s rhythm rather than watching it from the sidelines.
The 8.8 rating makes sense when you’re there – it’s the kind of place that gets the details right without making a big show of it. Good water pressure, blackout curtains that actually work, and yes, the air conditioning is powerful enough for those brutal February days. Sometimes that’s what five stars really means – not just luxury, but the confidence that everything will work the way it should.

Guest Reviews
Excellent.
The staff were very nice and welcoming, the room was very nice and clean, great location.
Great hotel but didn't like being charged for deposit.
Everything apart from deposit payment process was excellent. Just be aware of their procedure.
What could be improved: Deposit amount was actually taken from the card rather than put on pre-authorised hold. This means that anyone paying with a non Australian card will be subject to transaction charge or variation in currency exchange. Most reputable hotels or car hire companies only put pre-authorised holds which doesn't cost the customer anything unless a payment is needed later. Ask reception to only put hold on to avoid this.
It was a great and pleasant stay!
The room was spacious and the bed comfortable. I especially liked the filter water tap. It's so convenient to have drinking water. The restaurant was beautiful and buffet breakfast was yummy with good spread.
What could be improved: It's a little far to walk from the train station and there is no CAT bus stop nearby.
Very good
Excellent breakfast
What could be improved: The extra % for using a credit card.
Comfy and clean
Comfy and clean
What could be improved: No parking …. I’m single lady I don’t want to walk mile to my car and I think 60 is bit unreasonable to pay for parking over night when I have payed for a room.
