Overview
You know what caught me off guard about the Doubletree on James Street? Walking into the lobby, I actually felt like I was in a proper hotel – and I don’t mean that as a backhanded compliment. Perth’s got plenty of places to stay, but this one sits right in that sweet spot where you’re getting genuine four-star treatment without the stuffiness.
The location is honestly perfect if you want to experience Perth beyond the CBD tourist bubble. Northbridge gets a mixed reputation depending on who you ask, but staying here means you’re literally walking distance from some of the city’s best hole-in-the-wall restaurants and bars that locals actually frequent. I’m talking about places along William Street where you can grab proper Vietnamese pho at 2 AM, or duck into one of those tiny wine bars that don’t even have signs. The hotel sits just far enough from the weekend party chaos – you’ll hear some street noise Friday and Saturday nights, but it’s more urban energy than actual disruption. Plus, you can walk to the Perth Cultural Centre in about five minutes, which means easy access to the art gallery and museum without dealing with parking (trust me, that’s a blessing in this city).
What really sold me on this place was the staff’s genuine local knowledge – not the scripted tourism board stuff, but actual recommendations. The front desk guy told me about the farmers market at Forrest Place on Saturday mornings, and the housekeeping team always seemed to know when the good food trucks would be parked near the train station. The rooms themselves are what you’d expect from Hilton’s mid-tier brand – clean, comfortable beds, decent shower pressure, and those little touches like the signature chocolate chip cookies at check-in that somehow never get old. I mean, the decor isn’t going to win any design awards, but everything works properly and the air conditioning is quietly efficient (crucial during Perth’s summer months). The hotel pool area is small but surprisingly peaceful – it’s tucked away enough that you can actually relax there during the day, though I wouldn’t call it a destination in itself. Parking is available but costs extra, which is pretty standard for this area – honestly, you’re better off using the excellent public transport connections anyway. The Northbridge train station is maybe a seven-minute walk, and from there you can get to Fremantle, the beaches, or anywhere else you want to explore. What impressed me most was how the hotel manages to feel both professional and unpretentious – it’s the kind of place where business travelers and tourists mix naturally in the lobby, and nobody’s trying too hard to be anything other than what they are.

Guest Reviews
Central location, very clean room and great breakfast.
Central city location ...perfect for all our appointments. Breakfast was excellent, lots of options to choose from. Multiple restaurant options around the hotel for dinner.
What could be improved: No in house car parking or valet service but the public carpark is less than 5min walk from the hotel.
Superb
Breakfast, location and the room
What could be improved: Nothing we didn't like.
We will definitely stay again when next visiting Perth.
We shared a twin bed room with city views which had everything we needed for a one night stay. The shower was amazing with the option of overhead rain shower or hand held. The amenities were lovely to use also. On arrival and departure all of the staff were professional, friendly and very efficient.
What could be improved: The kettle is very small even to make two cups of tea and every time we boiled the water it would bubble madly and spill out all over the bench. It seemed to have baking soda in it? as the water tasted 'frothy' and caused the volcanic eruption from the kettle.
Very good
room was clean with all the facilities we needed and a great view
What could be improved: the bar was not open
Very good
Great location for a long weekend away, although in the heart of northbridge was quiet inside.
Lots of eateries, pubs and things to do
Comfortable and relaxing
Central location in Northbridge.
Arrived in Perth 7:45 am after red eye flight from Thailand my wife was not well and did not want to to travel further , we were very happy that the hotel had a room available for early check in at 9:45 .
Good night out with comfy room. Breakfast was good.
Great location. Close to all bars and restaurants.
Clean rooms comfy bed.
Good breakfast as well
What could be improved: Only local channels on TV. Apart from sport.
Room was very small for price paid of $380.
Delux king room.
Great location , clean, comfortable rooms, nice breakfast selection
Clean, central location, good breakfast!
What could be improved: Nothing
Great experience with value
Great location with easy access to various restaurants near the city center! The hotel is also quite new.
What could be improved: The parking lot is about four to five minutes walk from the hotel and does not have a lift, which is not so convenient for travelers with cars and luggage.
Comfy beds
Loved the location
Everything was clean and tidy
Bed was extremely comfortable. My husband and I had the best sleep.
Pillows were extremely comfortable also.
Gorgeous big shower.
Awesome sized wardrobe to put our suitcase and hang clothes.
Hair-dryer provided.
Iron and ironing board provided. Both worked well.
Nice sized bathroom.
Staff friendly and informative.
The whole hotel was clean.
The main thing we did like about this hotel was that it was quiet and peaceful.
Highly recommend this hotel.
What could be improved: Couldn't order room service after 11pm. We were told we could but food was limited. Once we got online to order something, nothing was available. There than that, we had an enjoyable stay.
