Overview

First Impressions

When I first pulled up to City & lakeside with free parking, pool and 10 mins walk into the City on Mounts Bay Road, I’ll be honest — the name pretty much tells you everything you need to know. This four-star property sits right where Perth CBD meets the Swan River, and you can actually see both the city skyline and the water from different angles. The building itself has that solid, no-nonsense Australian hotel vibe, but what really caught my attention was how easy it was to find parking — which, if you’ve ever driven around Perth’s city center, you know is basically a small miracle.

Location & Getting Around

Here’s the thing about this spot — it’s genuinely one of those locations where you get the best of both worlds. You’re close enough to walk into the heart of Perth in about ten minutes (I timed it), but you’re also right on Mounts Bay Road where you can actually breathe a bit. The Swan River is literally across the street, which means morning jogs or evening walks are pretty spectacular. I noticed a lot of couples staying here, and honestly, I get why they love it — there’s something romantic about having the city lights on one side and the water on the other.

The Room Experience

My room was exactly what I expected from a solid four-star place — clean, comfortable, and functional without trying too hard to be fancy. The views vary depending on which side you’re on, but I got lucky with a partial river glimpse. The air conditioning works well (crucial in Perth summers), and the Wi-Fi was reliable enough for work calls. What I appreciated most was the little balcony — nothing huge, but perfect for that morning coffee while watching the city wake up.

Amenities & Practical Stuff

The pool area is probably the hotel’s best feature — it’s not massive, but it’s well-maintained and gets good sun most of the day. There’s also a decent fitness center if you’re into that sort of thing. The on-site restaurant serves solid Australian fare, though I found myself wandering into the city for dinner most nights since there are so many good options within walking distance. The staff here are genuinely helpful — they gave me great recommendations for local spots that weren’t just the obvious tourist traps.

Why Guests Love It

Look, this isn’t the fanciest hotel in Perth, but it absolutely nails the fundamentals. Free parking in the CBD is worth its weight in gold, the location really is excellent for both business and leisure travelers, and the whole setup just works. You’re close enough to everything that matters — King Street, the cultural precinct, good restaurants — but you’re not dealing with the noise and chaos of being right in the thick of it. For the price point and the convenience factor, it’s honestly hard to beat. I’d definitely stay here again, especially if I was planning to explore both the city and the river areas.

Exceptional

We’ll set up with washing machine and dryer all washing liquid and washing up liquid. Heaps of tea bags, coffee sauces rice glou sugar oil etc. Full kitchen and a good size TV with couch. Hosts were easily contactable by phone and message and everything clean and organised.
If more than one person leave your bags at the front of the Wardolf main entrance and send someone to collect the key and pass tag. The pass tag will get you into the main lobby and lift.

What could be improved: SBS on demand and Britbox added as apps to tv.

Severe lack of water pressure in the shower. Neighbours who had TV volume up very loud.

What could be improved: Take ear plugs to overcome noise from neighbours TV and squealing kids.

Perfect place to relax and unwind

Brent & Michelle were very caring and responded quickly to any enquiries. The apartment is in a great location, opposite Kings Park and 10 min walking to the bus and train station. We felt right at home and enjoyed all the amenities. We played some tennis with the rackets and balls provided and enjoyed a refreshing swim afterwards in the pool. It's the perfect place to relax and unwind. We'll be back for sure.

What could be improved: Very minor suggestions to replace the sofa as it's worn out and not comfortable anymore.
