I mean, Padbury Circle is basically a hidden gem – most people drive right past it heading to Hillary’s or Scarborough, but honestly, that’s their loss.

The moment you walk into the lobby, there’s this immediate sense that someone actually thought about how real people use hotels. The check-in was refreshingly quick (I’ve stayed at places with half the star rating that somehow take three times as long), and the staff genuinely seemed to know the area well. When I asked about the best time to hit the beach, the front desk guy didn’t just point vaguely toward the water – he actually mentioned that the northern end tends to be less crowded in the mornings and warned me about the afternoon winds that pick up around 2 PM. That’s the kind of local insight you can’t get from a brochure.

The rooms themselves strike this nice balance between having everything you need without feeling cluttered. The balcony views vary depending on where you end up, but even the partial ocean views are worth it – you can actually hear the waves at night, which is surprisingly soothing. What I really appreciated was the little things: decent water pressure (seriously, why is this so rare?), blackout curtains that actually work, and – this might sound weird – but the air conditioning isn’t one of those units that sounds like a jet engine. The resort sits right on the beach, and I loved that you could walk straight from the pool area onto the sand without having to navigate through other properties or deal with public beach access points. The pool area gets busy during school holidays, but most of the year it’s pretty chill. There’s also this nice stretch of grass between the resort and the beach where people set up with kids or just hang out with a book – it’s one of those details that makes the whole experience feel more relaxed and less… resort-y, if that makes sense. Perth’s northern beaches can be hit or miss, but Sorrento has this laid-back vibe that’s perfect if you want to avoid the party scene at Scarborough or the tourist crowds at Cottesloe. Plus, you’re close enough to Hillarys Boat Harbour that you can easily grab dinner or catch a ferry to Rottnest Island if you want a day trip.
