Overview

First Impressions

When I first pulled up to Scarborough Beach Retreat, Private apartment on Hastings Street, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from a four-star apartment rental. But you know what? This place completely surprised me. The building sits in this perfect spot where you can actually hear the ocean without all the tourist chaos that usually comes with beachfront locations. There’s something refreshingly low-key about the whole setup — it feels more like staying at a friend’s really nice place than a typical hotel.

Location & Getting Around

I mean, Scarborough itself is sort of having this renaissance moment, and this apartment puts you right in the middle of it all. You’re literally a two-minute walk from the beach, which is fantastic for morning runs or just grabbing coffee and watching the surfers. What I really appreciated was the parking situation — having your own spot included is actually a big deal here, especially during summer when finding parking near the beach can be a nightmare. The local cafes along the esplanade are within easy walking distance, and honestly, some of them serve better coffee than what you’ll find in the city center.

The Space Itself

The room setup is really well thought out — it’s got this modern coastal vibe without being too themed, if you know what I mean. The kitchen is actually functional (not just for show), which was perfect since we grabbed fresh seafood from the local markets. The balcony faces toward the ocean, and while it’s not a direct water view, you get these nice glimpses of blue between the buildings. I spent most mornings out there with coffee, just watching the neighborhood wake up. The whole place feels clean and updated, but not sterile — there’s character here.

What Makes It Special

Here’s what really got me — the attention to small details that actually matter when you’re traveling. Good water pressure in the shower, blackout curtains that work properly, and a washing machine that’s genuinely useful for longer stays. The Wi-Fi is solid (I had to work a few mornings), and the air conditioning keeps things comfortable during those hot Perth afternoons. It’s these practical things that make the difference between a good stay and a great one, and they’ve clearly thought about what travelers actually need.

Why Guests Love It

After spending several days here, I totally get why couples rate this place so highly — it strikes this perfect balance between privacy and accessibility. You’re not dealing with hotel crowds or rigid check-in times, but you’re also not stuck in some isolated suburb. The beach is right there when you want it, but you can also easily explore other parts of Perth when you’re ready for a change of pace. It’s the kind of place where you can actually relax and feel like you’re living somewhere, not just passing through. For the price point and location, it’s honestly hard to beat.

I will be back in a flash.

I felt it was, as the name suggests, a retreat. Decima was quick to respond to any questions I had. Thoughtful extras made my stay extra nice. I slept so well as I was in such a comfortable bed and surrounds. I had a lovely walk to and along the beach to Scarborough Beach where there were so many places to eat. I shall certainly return.

What could be improved: Nothing I didn’t like.
