Overview
First Impressions
The Flag Motor Lodge sits right on Great Eastern Highway in Rivervale, and honestly, it’s one of those places that surprises you in the best way. This three-star property doesn’t try to be something it’s not — it’s a solid, well-run motel that actually gets the basics right. You know what struck me first? The parking situation is genuinely stress-free, with plenty of free spots right on site. That might sound small, but when you’re dealing with Perth traffic, it’s actually a huge relief.
Location That Works
Here’s the thing about Rivervale — it’s perfectly positioned without the chaos of being right in the city center. You’re about 10 minutes from Perth’s CBD, but you’re also close to the airport, which makes this spot incredibly practical. The Great Eastern Highway location means you can get pretty much anywhere without dealing with complicated routes through the city. I mean, couples seem to really get this — they consistently rate the location higher than solo travelers, probably because it’s easy to explore together without the stress of navigating busy streets.
The Room Experience
The room I stayed in was clean and functional — nothing fancy, but everything worked properly. The beds are comfortable enough, and the air conditioning actually keeps up with Perth’s heat, which isn’t always a given at this price point. What I appreciated was that the kitchenette had everything you’d actually use, not just random appliances that look good but don’t function well. The bathroom was recently updated, and you can tell they’ve put thought into making the space work better.
Why Guests Keep Coming Back
There’s something to be said for a place that has a lot of repeat guests — and Flag Motor Lodge definitely has that going for it. The staff genuinely seem to remember people, which creates this unexpectedly welcoming atmosphere. It’s not overly chatty or intrusive, just… competent and friendly. The property feels well-maintained in a way that suggests the owners actually care about the experience, not just filling rooms. You’ll notice little touches like decent coffee in the lobby and clean common areas that stay that way throughout the day.
Why Guests Love It
Look, this isn’t a resort experience, but it’s exactly what a good motel should be. The value is solid — you’re getting a clean, comfortable place to sleep with free parking and a location that actually makes sense for exploring Perth. The fact that recent guests consistently rate it well tells you something about the day-to-day reality of staying here. If you need somewhere reliable without paying city center prices, and you want to avoid the generic chain hotel experience, Flag Motor Lodge delivers on what it promises. Sometimes that’s exactly what you’re looking for.

Guest Reviews
Well located property
Location and the small kitchenette in the room that we were in
What could be improved: No bedside PowerPoints for my wife’s Resmed machine
We didn’t find the beds that comfortable
Family time
The size of room and staff where friendly and professional.
What could be improved: Due to renovations they had limited parking, some other occupants didn't park wisely.
Very good
they upgraded us to better room
What could be improved: original room shower heater makes noise, and drainage is poor
Value for money.
The room was clean and tidy, staff were extremely helpful and polite, great value for money and close to the airport, Ascot and Optus stadium. There is a pool and restaurant on site with mini convince item available also. Would recommend.
What could be improved: Lack of power outlets near the bed.
Enjoyed but would like rooms further away from reception
Nice clean rooms friendly staff
What could be improved: Room was right across from reception, very noisy on ground floor so very noisy during night
Great location, simple accommodation, lovely staff.
Location was close to CBD and Optus Stadium, 10 min taxi ride.
What could be improved: Room was non smoking but smelt like cigarettes when I first walked in, okay for one night stay when attending a game at Optus Stadium but not giving holiday vibes. Free parking.
Staff are always helpful in making their guests feel most important.
Rooms were fantastically clean, getting ground floor was ideal with kids.
