Overview
You know what struck me first about EAST34/60? It’s this perfectly unexpected oasis tucked away on East Parade – and I mean that literally. Walking up from the street, you’d never guess what’s waiting inside because the exterior is pretty understated, almost industrial in that cool Perth way. But step through those doors and honestly, it feels like someone took a deep breath and said “okay, let’s actually make this place livable.”
The location is sort of brilliant if you think about it. East Perth gets overlooked by tourists who stick to the CBD, but you’re actually in this sweet spot where you can walk to Optus Stadium (maybe 15 minutes if you’re not rushing), and the Swan River is right there when you need to clear your head. I stayed during footy season and could hear the crowd roar from my room – not annoying, just this distant energy that reminded me I was somewhere that actually mattered to locals. The rooms themselves have this urban sanctuary thing down pretty well, though I’d say it’s more “stylish apartment” than “hotel suite.” Big windows, decent coffee setup, and thank god, proper blackout curtains because the Perth sun doesn’t mess around. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious – I mean, you can actually move around without bumping into everything, which isn’t always a given at this price point.
Here’s what I really appreciated: the staff actually knew the neighborhood. When I asked about dinner spots, they didn’t just hand me a glossy brochure – they pointed me toward this little Vietnamese place two blocks down that I never would’ve found otherwise. Parking is decent (they have spaces, but book ahead during events), and check-in was refreshingly straightforward. Look, it’s not going to blow your mind with fancy amenities – the pool is more “lap swimming” than “Instagram moment,” and the gym is functional but basic. But there’s something honest about that approach. It’s a 4-star place that knows exactly what it is: comfortable, well-located, and designed for people who want to experience Perth rather than hide from it in some generic tower. The 7-star rating feels about right – it’s solid without being spectacular, and sometimes that’s exactly what you need. Plus, you’re close enough to walk into the city when you want that energy, but far enough out that you’re not dealing with Crown Casino crowds stumbling past your window at 2 AM.
