Overview
First Impressions
When I first pulled up to Applecross Village Gem 2BR on Ardross Street, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from the name alone. But you know what? This four-star property immediately caught my attention with its understated charm. The building sits quietly in one of Perth’s more relaxed neighborhoods, and there’s something refreshing about a place that doesn’t need to shout about how great it is — though the 10.0 location rating from recent guests sort of speaks for itself.
The Space That Surprised Me
Walking into this two-bedroom setup, I was genuinely impressed by how thoughtfully everything was laid out. The main room flows naturally into the living area, and honestly, it feels more like staying in a friend’s well-appointed apartment than a typical hotel. The kitchen — and this is where it gets good — actually has everything you need if you want to skip eating out every meal. I mean, Perth has amazing food, but sometimes you just want to make coffee your way in the morning, right?
Location That Actually Matters
Here’s the thing about Applecross that most people don’t realize until they’re there — it’s perfectly positioned between the river and the city without feeling like you’re stuck in tourist central. You’re about fifteen minutes from Perth’s CBD, but you can also walk down to the Swan River foreshore in the other direction. The neighborhood has this village-y feel (hence the name, I suppose) with local cafes and that relaxed Sunday morning vibe even on weekdays. Plus, there’s free parking right on site, which — trust me — is not something you take for granted in Perth.
Why Couples Keep Coming Back
I can see why this place gets such high marks from couples, especially those looking for something more intimate than your standard hotel experience. The two-bedroom layout means you’re not cramped into one space, and there’s actually room to spread out and relax. The whole setup feels private and residential, which is perfect when you want to experience Perth like you actually live there for a few days. It’s the kind of place where you can have a proper conversation over dinner without feeling like you’re performing for other hotel guests.
Why Guests Love It
What really sets this place apart is how it manages to feel both homey and polished at the same time. The 8.3 rating makes sense when you experience the attention to detail — everything works the way it should, but it doesn’t feel sterile or overly managed. You get the independence of having your own space with the peace of mind that comes with staying somewhere that’s actually well-run. And honestly, after a day exploring Perth’s beaches or wine regions, coming back to a place that feels like your own little retreat rather than just another hotel room makes all the difference.
To book a hotel in Perth during Fringe World, visitors plan ahead to mix open-air cabaret with rooftop cocktails in Northbridge.

Guest Reviews
Superb
Clean and comfortable in a great location
Great location, so close to Applecross village and the river. Clean and comfortable. Lots of kitchen crockery and utensils. Very spacious rooms.
What could be improved: Air conditioning didn’t work very well in the main living area or kitchen. The beds only had a bottom sheet and quilt which in the hot weather wasn’t ideal. Would have preferred a top sheet on the beds as well.
Very good
Great location, parking
What could be improved: No hangers in wardrobes
